Superb Owl
So, yeah, I got this idea last week and started sketching it out, then "The Colbert Report" totally milked the pun this week in a running joke about the NFL's aggressive legal threats to anyone trying to cash in on the name of its big game. But for the record, the inspiration for this, for me, is former Union-Tribune feature copy editor Elizabeth Gabriel, who in the 1990s sometimes referred to the takeout eatery Super Bowl as "the Superb Owl." The restaurant, at a food court in the, as it turns out, appropriately named Hazard Center near the paper, served a killer teriyaki chicken bowl, which a lot of us habitually ordered for lunch, until we started to find cockroaches in our food. I found one once, and I must say the teriyaki was soooo good at this place that I actually contemplated finishing it AFTER I spotted the cockroach.
