Slip
True story: While pencil sketching this, it dawned on me that this is such a gimme that I'm probably not the first person to think of it. Sure enough, the Internet produced several. Rather than scrap it, I decided to keep it as a variation on a theme, since it fits into the premise of this series so well. One thing I noticed in the others is that the more cartoonish and charicature-ish the Freud, the less funny it seems. I tried for a look that suggests that he's deep in thought about his mother issues while gazing into the girly mirror.

Small talk
This is the last of the not-previously-blogged cartoons in my picture pun collection. The blog is now complete, except for cartoons that I have not drawn yet, of course.

This one's for scientists
I didn't get this until it was explained to me, but if you have a scientific mind, you might get it. Speaking of not getting it, the thing I like about this drawing the most is it's the first cartoon I've drawn after finally figuring out how to work with transparencies and gradients in Photoshop. Adobe has some incredible software, but I find their manuals sometimes to be extremely hard to follow and understand. Thank you for letting me vent.
Two things that go together
This is the second to the last cartoon from my archives that I haven't posted on the blog before. After the next one, these summer "reruns" will be over.

Ewwwwwwww
The story behind this one, from 2011, the year I started this series of word pun illos, is that Rob Krier, my colleague at the Union-Tribune who has contributed a few ideas for cartoons, suggested an idea to play off the Erie Canal. I didn't think I could do justice to the concept he relayed to me, but I kicked it around in my head and came up with this image, instead, which I obviously drew but which I still didn't care for much. Plus, it has an ick factor that probably should have prompted me, if I had had any sense at all, to omit it from my posted collection. But no, there it is, and in the interest of making this blog a comprehensive collection, I'm holding my nose as I post this here. Of course, I should also advise that the Q tip people are the first to tell you to never do this. I think the common expression, in fact, is that you should never stick anything smaller than your elbow into your ear canal. So consider yourself warned.

Horsing around with the language
This is an oldie from 2011 but new to this blog. Almost done with posting all the old and not previously blogged work in this series. There are five more. After that, I'll go back to intermittent new posts, because I can't crank these out fast enough to make this a daily thing.

Green screen
Another oldie from 2011, first-time posting on this blog. If you aren't familiar with the 1973 sci-fi film "Soylent Green," you won't get this, but to destroy the joke and spoil the film in one sentence, the movie was about a future United States society wherein the government was supplying a food source whose secret ingredient was human flesh from people who were being harvested for that purpose.
Furthermore, if you don't know what a green screen is, this isn't your cup of tea either.

On three
This oldie just now being put on the blog wasn't so much meant to be ha-ha funny as it was meant to be a statement about how infantile it looks for professional athletes on national TV to huddle up on the sidelight and shout something simultaneously. I'm thinking solidarity and motivation comes from a deeper part of the soul than whatever part is required to roar a single word while clustered around each other laying hands on hands. Especially if the team ends up losing the game.

Oops! Take two!
I rushed this one into cyberspace last week, and it took me several days before I realized a major blunder. Here it is again with the correct caption. My apologies! Duh!

Of all the gall
I don't know. This one is probably inexcusable. But what the hey; it's my blog and I can post whatever I want. From 2011.
